Improving connectivity, permeability and legibility

Doha’s polycentric development is catalysed by the newly built metro, which starts shaping the city in centres and sub-centres. ARRUS has done extensive research for various outlets – including the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and Qatar University – which assesses spatial characteristics and provides urban design solutions for improving the urban qualities of these centres.

In the comparison between the CBD and Downtown Doha centres, one stark difference occurs in the degree of connectivity, permeability and legibility. We have taken these as design control mechanisms, to illustrate how certain challenges can be addressed with a series of solutions, tailored to the local spatial context and working with existing urban conditions.
