This competition addresses one of the most prominent beachfronts in Doha, currently occupied by a series of embassies and whose beach areas are unused. Our proposal combined four major ideas:

1. The Big Meander – a path connecting both lateral and longitudinal movement along the Beach which divides the beach into character zones.

2. The Beach – is laid out as a series of curated themed places for people to enjoy different experiences at different times; through the week and through the year – diverse but unified experiences.

3. The Beach Boulevard – traffic-calmed and lined with F&B uses, served by slip-roads, creating a vibrant edge and a filter through to the Beach. Across, development sites are created to form a new urban backdrop of intermediary scale, with arcades and active frontage.

4. Adaptive Re-use – adapting the embassy buildings and landscape both to give North Beach a unique character – different from any urban beach-scape around the world – and also to ensure that it can delivered with minimum time, minimum cost and gives maximum value.
